Middle GA LAN Fall Webinar: The Future of PT in Georgia

Middle GA LAN will host a round table discussion webinar on the Future of Physical Therapy in GA; originating from your feedback submitted via our most recent Middle GA member survey. All PTAG PTs, PTAs and student members as well as non-members are invited to attend. This is something you will want to be a part of. 

 

 

 

 

 

Webinar Objectives Include:

  1. Provide insights on the future of Physical Therapy in GA.
    2. Raise awareness of APTA, PTAG, and Physical Therapy profession. 
          2.1 Including 2 to 5 year direction & changes affecting everyone
    3. Facilitate professional planning for career, clinics and organizations.
    4. Explore new ways to raise public awareness and access Physical Therapy services in GA.
    5. Link & connect key leaders across GA as mentor-teachers.
    6. Encourage development of 5 & 10 year professional plans.

Speaker Dr. Ryan Balmes, PT, DPT is a sports physiotherapist practicing in Atlanta, GA. He recently opened his own private practice, ENDVR Health, which specializes in helping people with active lifestyles recover from injury and pursue their health and performance goals. Dr. Balmes is a Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Orthopaedics and Sports Physical Therapy with the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists.

Dr. Balmes earned both his undergraduate and graduate degree at the University of Florida. Passionate to excel in his career, Dr. Balmes completed an Orthopaedic Physical Therapy Residency from Louisiana State University Health Science Center -Shreveport and an Orthopaedic Manual Therapy Fellowship in Sports Rehab in Tacoma, WA with MVP Physical Therapy.

In addition to working hard to grow his practice, Dr. Balmes is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) serving on APTA's Media Corps, Diversity and Inclusion Work Group, and President of the Georgia Chapter.

David Taylor, PT, DPT, GCS is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at Mercer University, in Atlanta Georgia. Dr. Taylor received his B.S. in Psychology in 1988, Master of Physical Therapy in 1992, and Doctor of Physical Therapy in 2004 from Emory University. In 2015, Dr. Taylor completed a Certificate in Health Focused Patient/Client Management for Physical and Occupational Therapists from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He has been a Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Geriatric Physical Therapy since 2001. Dr. Taylor’s clinical practice included acute and post-acute care, including the skilled nursing and home health settings. Dr. Taylor’s teaching responsibilities include health promotion, geriatric physical therapy, falls prevention, service-learning, clinical education, and healthcare systems, payment, and policy. He provides consulting services for peer and utilization review in geriatric post-acute care settings. Dr. Taylor was the recipient of the 2014 Lynn Phillippi Advocacy for Older Adults Award from the Academy of Geriatric Physical Therapy.

Brad Freemyer, PT is the owner of A Step Ahead Physical Therapy, founded in 2007. In the past few years A Step Ahead Physical Therapy has expanded its services to help their clients achieve an optimal level of health and fitness beyond traditional rehabilitation. They offer a variety of wellness services, including wellness exams, community workshops, Functional Movement Screenings, and exercise memberships, empowering their clients to Move Well, Move Often and Be Well. Brad graduated from Georgia State University in 1988 with a BS in Physical Therapy. He has been practicing Physical Therapy for almost 30 years in a variety of settings including skilled nursing, outpatient, and inpatient facilities, as well as home health. He served as the Director of Rehabilitation at Baptist Medical Center Cumming/Northside Hospital Forsyth. He also served on the Georgia State Board of Physical Therapy and is a current member of the PTAG Legislative Committee that was instrumental in lobbying for Direct Access in Georgia. He enjoys guest lecturing at Georgia State University, giving back to the institution that launched his career.
